Emi Ceramics
The medium of clay is a great teacher of patience, meditation, ritual, and beauty. For Melody the medium itself becomes a guide, imparting lessons that echo beyond the studio. The essence of her practice lies in embracing the fluidity of the process and allowing the tactile nature of clay to lead the way. This series of works was created in a wood-firing process, the most manual and elemental way of creating ceramic works. The kiln was built by her studio mates from old reclaimed bricks and during the firing, the flame was fueled by locally collected wood for 32 hours straight, etching a narrative onto the vessels—a story of the flame and ash journeying through the kiln, leaving its mark on each creation.
Melody's practice embodies the harmonious blend of her cultural Japanese sensibility and the Australian landscapes she creates on.
