Impressed Recordings company launch

[Thursday, November 2] Impressed Recordings, Australia’s first direct-to-superfan vinyl brand, launches today with an armada of curated releases from some of the country’s most beloved and exciting new acts. Founded by a collective of music lovers from across the industry spectrum, this new company is poised to revolutionise the inequitable landscape of vinyl production, empowering both local and global artists to press records by eliminating the many onerous cost, time, design and production barriers - just in time for Aus Music Month.

With unrivalled onshore production capabilities, Impressed Recordings will be releasing around 10 records per month, reflecting the true landscape of Australian music. The launch suite includes a double EP from Royel Otis, a debut LP from ARIA-winning Oh Mercy songwriter Alexander Gow, a very limited Australian-only pressing of 10th Anniversary of Passenger’s All The Little Lights, famously recorded with local legends in Sydney, and now featuring guest appearances that include Ed Sheeran, the much-anticipated debut EP from Radio Free Alice and a new serving from neo-soul shaman, Laneous, exclusive variants of this year’s Babe Rainbow EP’s, the debut album from Julia Jacklin-endorsed Georgia Mulligan, a repress of Babitha’s critically-acclaimed debut album, and for the very first time on vinyl, Brisbane indie legends Hungry Kids Of Hungary’s Escapades. Impressed is also thrilled to present groundbreaking future soul artist Ngaiire’s Lamentations and Blastoma records pressed as an exclusive 2LP for the first time, as well as Tasman Keith’s breakout Mission Famous EP in its launch, celebrating its five year anniversary with its first ever pressing on vinyl.

Boasting a dedicated partnership with Suitcase Records, Australia’s most talked-about new pressing plant who recently pressed G Flip’s ARIA #1 record, Impressed offers both artists and labels the best possible pressing with guaranteed quick turnarounds. All album releases are 180 gram heavyweight vinyl and arrive with a bespoke essay from some of Australia’s best music writers.

“Independent artists' budgets rarely account for vinyl LP production, the most tangible representation of a musician's work,” says Alexander Gow. “To counter that, Impressed step in and collaborate with the artist to help them press and release a gorgeous product and avoid artistic compromise. It's a passion project, much like the work of the artists they support.”

Impressed Recordings fronts the cost of manufacturing to ensure there’s no barrier to entry for any artist. They also pay full royalties and mechanicals to artists and labels, allowing access to those that would otherwise be locked out of the vinyl production to create something beautiful for their fans. All Impressed releases are ARIA-chart accredited, ensuring artists get the plaudits they deserve.

Fans can access online exclusive pre-orders that are strictly limited and only pressed once. Each comes with a hand-numbered, custom-made obi strip and unique colour variant, available for pre-order to arrive beautifully packaged in custom boxes on the day of release.  To make things simple, there’s no surprises on shipping - it’s included as free, anywhere in Australia.

Impressed Recordings is also committed to a number of sustainable initiatives, including making and shipping all records in Australia, thereby reducing carbon footprint. Customers are given the option not to wrap their records in plastic, and Impressed are working to find a long term solution that protects records as well as Mother Earth.

Impressed Recordings is the brainchild of a diverse team of collaborators, whose collective background spans everything from the world's biggest tech company, to some of the most exciting start-ups and media outlets in Australia. “For a frustrated creative who’s been trying to sneak music ideas past my bosses for years, Impressed is a dream come true, Jonno says. “We get to make great records, create beautiful products with the attention to detail we all crave and most importantly, champion artists that are important to us and the culture.”

Luke adds: “Our aim is simple - to make something wonderful that artists and fans will enjoy, and treasure, for lifetimes. ”
