"Whirlpool of Love" is an expressive interpretation of two stories: the Japanese legend of the Red String and the tale of Lake Te Anau in NZ. The painting captures the dynamic and turbulent nature of water, blending a range of colours and tones to create a mesmerising effect.
Te Anau, which means "Surging Water" in the local language, is the setting for a tragic event. The village chief's wife betrayed his trust by revealing his secret fishing spot to her lover. As the lover's reflection appeared on the water, the lake surged and flooded the village, claiming the lives of the wife and her lover. The painting depicts the wife's perspective as she witnesses the tragedy.

Incorporating the Red String legend adds another layer of meaning to the artwork. The idea of an invisible thread connecting people destined to be together offers a powerful counterpoint to the tragic events that unfold at Te Anau. By intertwining these two stories, "Whirlpool of Love" invites viewers to contemplate the ripple effect of human relationships.
